Mr. Satoshi Seino was born in 1947 in Sendai, Miyagi prefecture and graduated from Tohoku University. In 1970 he joined JR’s predecessor, Japanese National Railways, and in April 2006 became President and CEO of JR East. Under his leadership, JR East has worked relentlessly to heighten its safety levels. These efforts were successful in preventing any casualties among our passengers when the earthquake and tsunami struck on March 11, 2011. Within 50 days after the earthquake, JR East had reopened all of its high speed network and was contributing to revitalizing local communities through stimulating tourism.
Mr. Seino has been Chairman of the Board at JR East since April 2012. Outside of JR East, he has been the Chairman of the Asia-Pacific Region of the International Union of Railways (UIC) since January 2013. Since June 2015 he has been Chairman of the Tohoku Tourism Promotion Organization, and through this work he sends the superb charm of Tohoku to both inside and outside the country and pursues the contributions to Tohoku that can be made through tourism.
