Virginia Messina was appointed Chief of Staff in February 2013. Before that, Virginia spent 7 years in different agencies of the Mexican government such as the Office of the President and the Ministry of Tourism.
During her time at the Tourism Ministry, she engaged in leading the transformation of the tourism sector recognising it as a strategic priority for the country. She was part of the creation of the National Agreement for Tourism between public and private sector.
During Mexico’s Chairmanship of the G20 Virginia led the representatives of the Tourism Ministries to negotiate the final declaration and the inclusion for the first time ever of Travel & Tourism in the G20 Leaders Declaration.
Since joining WTTC, she has been part of the creating and implementing the strategic plan and serves as Secretariat for the Global Travel Association Coalition
